Systeme.io Honest Review: Is the Free Plan Actually Enough?
We tested Systeme.io's free plan for three months running real funnels and email campaigns. Here is what we found, including the exact point where you will need to upgrade.
Systeme.io markets itself as the free all-in-one platform for online businesses. After three months of running real funnels, email campaigns, and a course through the free plan, we can confirm that claim is largely accurate, with a few important caveats.
The free plan includes 2,000 email contacts, three sales funnels, one online course, unlimited emails, a blog, and a built-in affiliate programme. For a creator who is just starting out, that covers everything you need for at least the first 12 months.
The email editor is functional but not beautiful. If you are used to Mailchimp's drag-and-drop templates, Systeme.io will feel basic. However, for plain-text style emails (which tend to convert better anyway), it works perfectly well.
The funnel builder is where Systeme.io genuinely shines. Building a landing page, connecting it to an email sequence, and adding an order form takes about 20 minutes. The same workflow in separate tools (Leadpages + ConvertKit + Gumroad) would cost over £100 per month combined.
The course platform is adequate for a first course. It supports video lessons, drip content, and completion certificates. It is not Teachable or Kajabi, but it is free, and for a first digital product, that matters more than polish.
When do you need to upgrade? The £27 per month Startup plan becomes necessary when you exceed 2,000 contacts, need more than three funnels, or want automation rules (if-then workflows). In our experience, most creators hit the contact limit first, typically around month 8 to 12.
Our verdict: start on the free plan. Do not pay until you have to. When you do upgrade, the Startup plan at £27 per month is still cheaper than the separate tools it replaces. At 60% lifetime recurring commission, this is also the most lucrative affiliate programme in our stack.
